INFRASTRUCTURE

LITCHFIELD NATIONAL PARK, CENTRAL BIKE TRAIL & CARPARK

Client: NT Government
Location: Darwin Region, Litchfield National Park
Date: June 2023

The construction of the bike trail between Litchfield Park Road and the lookout near Central Valley Campgrounds successfully provided additional accessibility within Litchfield National Park. The primary objective was to develop a 20.5 km long, 1.5-meter wide mixed-use trail suitable for cycling, hiking, and quad bike use, enhancing recreational opportunities for users of varying experience levels.

The project involved careful planning and execution, including the clearing of the designated trail area and the establishment of a durable trail surface. The design focused on maintaining accessibility while ensuring that the trail accommodated a variety of users. Portions of the trail were effectively scoped into three segments, with a total length that ensured comprehensive connectivity between key locations.

In addition to the bike trail, a car park was developed off Litchfield Park Road, utilising existing gravel pit locations. The designated car park area, measuring 30 meters by 90 meters and located 200 meters from Litchfield Park Road, was cleared and prepared to ensure easy access for trail users. This enhancement facilitated convenient parking for visitors seeking to explore the trail.

The successful completion of this project resulted in a well-structured and resilient infrastructure that not only promotes outdoor recreation but also contributes to the sustainable development of Litchfield National Park.
